Applying Griptape

2:30pm 5/17/07

1. You will need the following things to grip a deck: Deck, Griptape, Razor Blade, Awl (or screwdriver), Counter top. If you are unfamiliar with any of these tools or procedures, please ask someone who is for assistance.

2. Remove the shrink wrap from your skateboard deck with your hands or razor blade.

3. Check to make sure that the piece of griptape that you have is long enough to cover the board.
Take of paper backing of the griptape

4. Peel the paper backing from the griptape. The grip will be sticky and the paper will be shiny and smooth

5. Take the shiny paper side and flip it so that the shiny side is against the gritty side of the griptape.

6. Flip the grip over and line up the sticky side with the nose of the deck.

7. Use the backing of the griptape to smooth the grip across the deck. Working from one end to the other.
Work out any air bubbles in your griptape

8. Keep the paper on top of the grip and work out any airbubbles and completely smooth the griptape

9. Take your Awl and scrape around the outer edge of the deck

10. Continue scraping the deck all the way around until you come back to where you started.

11. Once you are done scraping the deck you will see the outline of the board in the griptape.
Cut griptape with a razor blade

11. Hang the board over the edge of a counter and cut around the deck with a razor blade. Ask for help.

12. Continue cutting until you have returned to where you have started and can remove the excess griptape.

13. Take the Awl, turn the board upside down and poke the holes out using the truck holes.

14. Push the holes that you just poked back in and push the all through this way to get a clean hole.
